“She likes red lipstick, fish and chips, orange juice and trips to the seaside” – Skint & Demoralised, Red Lipstick
I used to hate lipstick with a passion. The feeling of anything on my lips would drive me insane. I couldn’t be further from that these days, there’s barely a day when my lips are bare, and if I’m feeling crap, red lipstick is my life line.
Need to distract from tired eyes? Red lipstick. Want the perfect accompaniment to a slick of black liner? Red lipstick. Running late but want to appear ‘put together’? Red lipstick. Feeling shitty? You guessed it.
As it’s valentines day I’m showing some serious love to this makeup bag must-have. All hail the red lipstick, long may it continue to be our bff!

Topshop Matte Lip Bullet – Could this be Love
I love, love, love these lip bullets but they get so messy, well, mine do. I love the simple packaging but I hate the clear plastic lids. The product though… nothing but love here! This stuff stays put all day, I can (and do) eat and drink until my heart’s content and I don’t have to worry about getting it all around my face. I love that these lip bullets are slimmer than a ‘normal’ lipstick, and the point seems to stay intact where as I somehow flatten all of my others…
Beautiful bright shade, staying power and easy application – now that’s my kind of lipstick.
The Bright Red
A firm favourite among red lip fans. This colour is beautiful, a classic pillar box red. As with all MAC matte lip products, you know that you’re getting an unbeatable formula that’s long lasting, smudge proof and not super drying. I barely ever remember to wear lipliner because really, who does, but this stays put perfectly, without bleeding.
The True Red
It wouldn’t be a lipstick post without mentioning a lipstick legend – Kate Moss. She just knows lipstick and Kiss of Life is no exception. It’s not as matte as I’d usually go for and there’s a slight scent as you’re applying the product but thats okay, I still love it. Rimmel probably do the best red lip on the high street, and this true red is my pick of the bunch.
The Pinky Red
This blue toned red is an absolute classic. If you don’t Ruby Woo in your MAC lipstick collection then you need to reserve a space in your acrylic lipstick holder immediately. You need perfectly moisturised lips for this bad boy, something that I have very, very rarely. It’s retro matte formula picks up every imperfection and can make lips look flaky and dry, but that’s nothing that a sugar scrub and a slick of lip balm can’t fix. And P.S, it’s totally worth the extra effort.
The Liquid Lip
There are some of my favourite liquid lipstick formulas, and at £3, they’re so affordable. As with most liquid lipsticks, they can be a little tricky to apply at first, which can lead to big red clown lips as this deep red shade can be a bugger to remove. Do not question it’s staying power though. You won’t need to top this up after a few glasses of wine, and, with it’s purse friendly price tag, you might be able to swap those glasses for a bottle, and then let’s face it, your lipstick will be the least of your worries!
Happy Valentines Day everyone, I hope that you all have/had a fabulous one. If you’re single, celebrate Galentines or, show yourself some self love. If you’re spoken for, I hope that you’re spoilt rotten!
Whats’s your favourite red lippy? I’d love to expand my collection!
